At one point Famous had to settle for containers that had divided compartments, which didn’t work for items such as its Flapjacks, so they made do by flipping the container on its head and using the flat lid as the base.

Similarly, hiccups in the supply chain have also forced Xperience Restaurant Group,  which operates nine different concepts, including 31-units of El Torito Grill and 14 units of Chevys Fresh Mex, to settle for available packaging.

For example, when the Cypress, Calif.-based group decided to offer margaritas for carryout at several of its brands, it packaged the cocktail in what was accessible at the time: 32-ounce plastic deli containers. But the plastic didn’t fit with any of the brands’ on-premise image so the Xperience team sought out reusable glass bottles.
